Seeing as just about every other company has outed the specs of its Eee PC-alike it seemed only a matter of time before Dell did the same and the folks over at Engadget have confirmed that suspicion, posting up a number of images from a press pack we in the UK have yet to receive. Knowing Engadget, Dell aren't likely to have sent the slides, but we don't care because we're all waiting eagerly to see how the Dell shapes up to rivals from Sony, Acer and, of course, the original sub-notebook player: Asus.

Two flavours of Dell E are available, the 8.9in E, set to go up against the Eee PC-esque crowd, and the 12.1in E Slim, supposedly intended to rival the MacBook Air.

Specs are as follows:

Dell E

  • 8.9in, 1,024 x 600 screen.
  • 1.6GHz Atom CPU.
  • 4/8/16GB flash storage.
  • 512MB/1GB RAM.
  • 3USB ports.
  • WiFi, Bluetooth and/or WWAN (WiMAX, HSDPA and the like).
  • 4-cell, 35Whr battery (~5hr).
  • Linux or Windows XP OS with "quick-boot" OS.

Dell E Slim

  • 12.1in, 1,280 x 800 screen.
  • 1.3GHz or 1.6GHz Atom CPU.
  • 8GB flash or 40GB 1.8in storage.
  • 512MB/1GB RAM.
  • 3USB ports.
  • WiFi, Bluetooth and/or WWAN (WiMAX, HSDPA and the like).
  • 3-cell, 26Whr or 6-cell 52Whr battery (~5hr).
  • Linux or Windows XP OS with "quick-boot" OS.

Interestingly the specs list the 8.9in as coming with a second battery. If the 5hr lifespan from one is to be believed, then a whole day's work from the Dell should be easily possible. No specific release date yet, but system should be on sale from around August. Pricing will apparently start from $299 (~£150).
