We first got wind of MSI's forthcoming Eee PC rival, the Wind, back at CeBit but company reps were pretty hush hush about details. While MSI isn't completely breaking its silence yet, the company has now made some of the specs more official.

Screen sizes of 8.9in and 10in will be available, presumably with slight variations in chassis dimension too, with 1,024 x 600 resolutions - matching the Eee PC 900. MSI touts this as LED-backlit giving improved battery life, among the technology's other improvements.

Internally the processor choice is still unspecified, although there is much speculation that it will be an Atom chip. We do now know that rather than using SSD storage like the Eee PC, a 2.5in, 80GB hard drive will be used for the Wind. Hopefully the reduced cost of not using solid state drives will be reflected in the price.

Operating system wise MSI has informed us that it will offer both XP and Linux configurations. This is contrary to popular belief which suggested only XP would be offered. Price wise we're being told to expect around £200-300 depending on the SKU chosen. The official outing will be at Computex this June, so keep a weather eye on the horizon.
