The writing was pretty much on the wall with this one anyway, but according to a report from Reuters Acer is definitely prepping its own Eee PC-a-like system for launch some time this year. Given the tremendous success Asus has had, and the knowledge that, among others, MSI is readying a similar form factor system it would probably seem stranger if Acer was not joining the party.

Details are pretty sparse but what we do know is that the system would likely sport either a 7in or 9in screen and be targeted at a similar audience to the Eee PC. Supposedly Acer would be pricing the system in the region of $470 (£230-odd) which is a little bit more than the Eee, so hopefully the specs will be good enough to make the extra cost worthwhile.

A bit of speculation would suggest that Acer is likely to use Intel's forthcoming Diamondville CPU as opposed to the ‘standard' notebook processor found in the Asus Eee PC. Hopefully the higher asking price will also mean better specs where the Eee lacks, such a battery life. No official details are available from Acer as yet, but we'll let you know as soon as anything else emerges.
