With the UMPC format slowly gathering momentum OQO has responded in some style...

Today it has announced a whole raft of improvements to its only-recently-received Model 02 Ultra that will have existing owners grinding their teeth with jealousy.

Starting at the top, OQO's latest revision sees the unit ship with faster processors which now top out at a notebook rivalling 1.6GHz, while HDDs have hit an impressive 120GB with a new 32GB SSD option now available. OQO says the latter option will reduce boot times by up to 50 per cent and increase battery life as well as durability.

Not finished there, the diddy PC's WWAN has been upgraded to 1.4Mbps EV-DO Rev while the entry level pricing has been dropped by a whole $200 to $1,299 (£650) making the range more affordable than ever before. Of course 'affordable' is still a relative term in this sector.

The updated model O2s go on sale immediately and look to the likes of reseller Expansys for UK availability. This battle ain't over yet...
