If you checked out our review of the sweet, sweet Qosmio G30-102 then read about Tosh's plans to upgrade it with an HD DVD-R drive but still didn't splash out you'll be glad you kept that money in your pocket...

Scooped by Froggy site PC Inpact, the Qosmio G40 is an absolute joy to the eyes having undergone a highly successful face lift swapping black for a new part black, part metallic finish and slimmer appearance (though still sub 5Kg weight).

On the inside things are also just as promising with a rocket powered nVidia GeForce Go 8600 GT at its core, an HDMI 1.3 output for full support of Deep Colour, dual 200GB HDDs and an HD DVD-R drive. The CPU is also a new Merom T7300 (2GHz). In fact, the only elements which haven't been greatly improved are 17in 1,920 x 1,200 display (though I suspect screen brightness/response time may be tweaked) and the already perfectly adequate 2GB of RAM.

There's no word on whether the G40 will benefit from wireless n but with support for the Socket P, T7300 (and therefore potentially the Centrino Pro chipset) I suspect there may be.

A sizeable 2,999 euro (£2,039) price tag has been levelled on the G40 but this is a sizeable machine due some big love.
