Thankfully, just like all of us Intel has also become tired of waiting…

The chip monolith announced late last night that it is finally bored with waiting for 802.11n to pass into officialdom and will be integrating the Draft N specification into its Centrino chip from next month.

A new campaign – ‘Connect with Centrino’ – will begin to make consumers aware of the technology bump and Intel claims it has already worked with Asus, Belkin, Buffalo, D-Link and Netgear to ensure compatibility with their Draft N products. In turn these guys will start displaying ‘Connect with Centrino’ logos on their products to advertise their compatibility.

Intel claims users will see up to five times the performance and twice the range currently offered by wireless g. Draft N technology is also backwards compatible with 802.11b/g but is obviously limited by their performance restrictions.

In related news Draft 2.0 of Wireless N was approved last night meaning just one more approval draft (3.0) is required before the specification is finalised. This should come around January 2008 with officially branded 802.11n kit hitting shelves by Q4 2008.

Raise your hand if you can see why Intel got sick of waiting…?!
