The 8kg drum capacity is more than adequate to service the needs of the average family, and matches nicely to modern washing machines which have drum capacity of between 6 and 8kg. Unless you’ve got a strangely large amount of clothes to wash this should be fine, and if you’re upgrading from an older tumble dryer you’ll really notice the difference.
It’s a condenser dryer that’s freestanding, so will fit in any kitchen, and front loading, which is the easiest way to get clothes in and out of the machine. It only has a C rating for energy efficiency, however — whilst this isn’t awful there are machines that use less energy than this, so if you think that eco-friendliness is an important consideration when choosing a tumble dyer you might want to look elsewhere.
You can set the Hotpoint TCM580P to dry for any time from 20 minutes to 160 minutes. However most of the time you should be fine with just a 50 minute cycle, which is really fast compared to other models which are starting to have longer and longer drying times. Not that long cycle times are a problem, really, as the Hotpoint TCM580P is so quiet it won’t keep you up if you put in on then go to bed.
As it’s a basic model the Hotpoint TCM580P is really easy to use. Everything from setting the cycles to emptying the water or the fluff container is a breeze and you won’t have to keep fiddling with the manual. The Hotpoint TCM580P does suffer from leaks, though, and as it doesn’t have reverse tumble you will end up with a big tangled mess of clothes and sheets occasionally.
