Great new feature. (Though I'm sure it's just going to give Mr. Kelly's apparently irritable nature even more room for frustration.)

Glad you finally got this added. Does this mean that article threads will no longer be created on the forums?

It's great we can now comment directly on stories.
I've got a couple of points however...not critical just ideas.
It is a shame that the comments are not posted to any relevant threads on the forums and replies on the forums are not posted to the story etc. I built a system that did something similar. How I did it was that the "Subject" that was posted on the forums was a link to the story where they could comment. This was more to drive users to the more valuable (CPM etc) story pages rather than just sticking to the forum all the time. Not an issue you have at the moment I suppose.
Another idea would be to sync the forum login system and the new comment login system. Saves me having two logins to take part in the community.

@Darfuria
No, the forum will be there also - the two systems are totally independent. Comments are here to provide users who don't wish to use the forum with a way to leave feedback.

Oi GoldenGuy - it is to your benefit that I am so hard to please ;)

Woo, just what I've been waiting for. Thanks for adding this TR.

Exactly what I've been wnating. Great implementation as well, with the AJAX submission.

Hope this works out well! Should be a little bit more immediate and more tightly integrated than the forum posts. Hopefully this will encourage people's feedback on products. (Plus we'll be able to answer your rhetorical questions, Gordon!)
A comment rating system may help filter out the rubbish, though I dare say that TR attracts a higher form of life than the average YouTube commenter.

Just seems a little messy to have discussions on the same article on both the comments and the forum.
Will article authors still be creating threads on the forum once an article is made live?
The_Pope said on 9th June 2008
No - I believe the plan is for Article Discussion to be firmly in Comment-land. The Forums will remain for other forumy activities

Fantastico! Hopefully people will take it as an opportunity to converse and dialogue in a meaningful manner, not turn these into flame-posts ;)
Well done TR - still keeping it nice!

A nice addition, but you really should have the comments on the same page as the story rather than having to needlessly click to another page to see them.
