Philips has traditionally produced impressive universal remote control devices, with its Pronto range seen by many as the best of breed. However, the new RC9800i is set to raise the bar once more on universal remote controls.

The RC9800i is much more than a universal remote control with a full colour, touch screen display and integrated WiFi, this is an intelligent mobile device. As well as controlling every device in your home, the RC9800i can download and display content from your PC or the Internet.

The RC9800i comes complete with a docking cradle and rechargeable battery, and carries a not insignificant $499 projected price tag.

Continuing with its Connected Planet ethos, Philips also announced that its two new 42 and 50in flat panel TVs will have integrated WiFi capability. This means that you’ll be able to stream media from your PC directly to your TV without the need for a media adapter box.
