Interesting, entertaining, and well written article.
Enjoyed it.
Would like to see a similar one about DVD Recorders with Hard Drive facility.
And a similar one concentrating on the best available laptops.

This is good, though long overdue!, however, what about the market being flooded with Blue Ray recorders with built in HDD's? Panasonic are the only company as far as i'm aware to rule the roost on this one!albeit it being out of most peoples pockets reach!

Nothing said about "Region Free." Oppo initially said that the new Blue-Ray player was Region Free BUT on an e-mail Oppo told me it was not. However, the specs claim NTSC and PAL. Other people say you can make it Region Free with the remote control and Menu (press 9020 or something like it and then 0.)
Maybe somebody can clarify this for me since I also need it to be able to play SACD. Thanks.

Any time I've tried bdlive on my ps3, the content has been pointless (trailers, or chat (via keypad??)) and its all been appalingly slow.
The gracenote link seems the best idea so far...even better if it was on the player! so you could use it on any movie!

If they used it to show up to date movie trailors that would be a step forward!

Another pointless feature that nobody really asked for.
How about something revolutionary? Ask users what they want !!!
Something like BD players that start up quickly, or remember your place in the movie when turned off ...
Come on manufacturers, it's not rocket science - give users what they want, not what you think they want!!!

Pay extra moneys for something I can do simply by picking up my laptop? Or taking my phone out of my pocket?
Gimmicky.
