Warner Offers HD DVD to Blu-ray Upgrades Comments

There is a maximum (in the US)of 25 discs per household but you can change them all in one go, reducing postal charges and the individual cost per disc, some people are buying HD discs from Costco et al at reduced/sale prices and converting them to Blue ray under this arrangment.

The scheme works by sending the cover for the HD disc, you keep your original disc as well as receiving the Blue - ray replacement.
One issue is with box sets/special editions, many people are reluctant to lose the treasured covers and artwork.

Sounds good... but surely if you have HD disks, then you have an HD player? Therefore regardless whether the format is now dead; you'll still be able to use your disks. Why would you want to pay money to exchange them?

Just my 2c - now tell me why I'm wrong :-)

Steve - I'm guessing the idea is that you might already have a HD DVD player - but at some point it might break, or you want to add capability to watch HD films elsewhere in the house but the only players available now are Blu-ray. Or you want to take a film round a friends to watch - but they've got a Blu-ray player.
