Budget usually doesn't mean rubbish when talking about Denon's kit, as proved by the DVD-1940 DVD player so the budget-orientated DVD-1800BD isn't likely to disappoint. Although for Denon to call its DVD-1800BD Blu-ray player a 'budget' system with its £600 UK price tag could be considered taking the proverbial just slightly.

On the Blu-ray spec front, the player only conforms to the 1.1 standard, so there's no BD Live functionality. Not that I consider that much of a loss, but some might - a firmware update to the 2.0 standard is mooted for some point in the future anyway.

More importantly the DVD-1800BD does offer HDMI 1.3 output, support for Deep Color content when some finally becomes available (or from some camcorders, now) alongside Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio bit stream output.

CD audio is also taken care of pretty well by a dedicated 2-channel output and, apparently, a bunch of high-end analogue circuitry to ensure high-quality in case that's a consideration when looking for a Blu-ray player.

The system will be available in December for that £600 MSRP already mentioned. Yes it's a bit pricey, but ultimately you get what you pay for in these matters.
