Following on from the release of the SlingBox HD (albeit in the US only for the time being, sadly), Sling Media has gone ahead and dished out its SlingCatcher, too. Basically the opposite of the SlingBox, in that it receives, rather than broadcasts video signals, the device can either pick up SlingBox broadcasts or stream video files from the net - albeit by proxy of a PC.

If you already have a SlingBox, the SlingCatcher will connect to it, whether that be from another room in the same house, or via the Internet on the opposite side of the planet. Media can also be streamed from a PC, or files played from a USB storage device, connected to the player.

Format support is pretty darned good, with WMV, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264 (AVC) and XviD (and thus DivX) video all able to be played. On the audio front the device is capable of playing, MP2, MP3, WMA, AAC and AC3. In other words, just about anything you might... find on the Internet.

Resolution wise, the SlingCatcher will go up to 1080i (over HDMI) as well as SD resolutions over Component, S-Video and composite.

You can grab the SlingCatcher now, either from Sling Media or various resellers, for £199 should you be so desirous.
