Now we’ve looked at the bundles let’s take a look at the performance scores. In 3DMark 05 and 06 the scores show that the X1900 XTX is comfortably ahead of the more expensive GeForce 7800 GTX. In 3DMark 06 the game tests all these FSAA enabled.

In the game tests the X1900 XTX really stretches its legs once FSAA and AF are enabled. In F.E.A.R., at 1,280 x 960 the X1900 XTX reached 68 with IQ on, while the 7800 GTX 512 only reaches 45fps. At 1,600 x 1,200 it achieves a playable 49fps with IQ on – NVIDIA only 31fps. In Far Cry and in Half-Life 2, the X1900 XTX is again significantly faster.

However, in Day of Defeat: Source it’s slower, indicating that NVIDIA is faster at HDR in this game. In Doom 3 NVIDIA is faster, but that’s because the greens have always had the advantage in ID’s OpenGL powered games.

So while it’s not a clean sweep, ATI is overall the more impressive card, especially considering its lower price.

Verdict:

Inevitably, with three identical reference cars it’s the packaging, the software bundle, the availability and the price that will determine the winner. This changes day by day, especially when items are hot, which as the fastest single graphics card in the world today, this certainly is.

Right now the Club3D can be picked up from Tekheads for £435, the Connect 3D for £399 and the Sapphire at eBuyer for £404.96. This makes the Sapphire other overall winner thanks to its superior bundle.
