The thinking behind this head-to-head then is that instead of pitting graphics cards of the same class against each other we’d simply look at price. However, both these cards are a bit more expensive than some. The reason for this is that the Sapphire employs a low noise super silent cooler. This is essentially the Zalman VF700-ALCU - an large but attractive, part copper, part aluminium affair with two radial areas full of heat dissapating fins. It also includes heat spreaders over the RAM chips.

You could of course buy a regular X800 XL card and the Zalman cooler separately and the latter can be picked up from QuietPC.com for about £20. But Not many people will want to risk separating a heatsink and cooler from their expensive graphics card and if things go wrong with your own custom install there’s no fall back. By buying the Sapphire, not only are you saving time and effort but you’re getting a warranty as well. And in its blue livery it also looks rather fetching.
