What I'd like to know is whether these things will require totally new hardware in the way DX10 did. Sounds a bit like driver based improvements unless the implementation of tesselation in particular requires dedicated hardware...

Good point about whether it needs new hardware, especially as I was about to buy a new card. I may hold off now.

yay for tessellation + smoothed out models.
but i'm interested as to whether hardware tessellation can be applied to older games. like gta san andreas, for example. (pentagon steering wheels? really?)
