nVidia announcements of late have been a bit of a mixed bag. Ion is pretty cool, for example, but an expected decline in revenue of 40 to 50 per cent, as just announced, won't please shareholders.

That decline refers to nVidia's predictions for the fourth quarter of its 2009 fiscal year, ending on the 25th of this month. nVidia cites "further weakness in end-user demand and inventory reductions by nVidia's channel partners in the global PC supply chain."

The downwards trend continues from nVidia's Q3 financials, which also showed the company's profitability taking a turn for the worse. It's unknown as yet whether nVidia will turn a profit this last quarter or not, as a result of its declining revenue.

It seems unlikely, too, that the launch of the "fastest graphics card in the world," the GeForce GTX 295, will do much to help nVidia's bottom line. High-end graphics cards aren't were the company makes most of its money, after all.
