Those tempted by the nVidia GeForce GTX 260 216, but put off by the price will be pleased to hear it's now a little bit lower. Unsurprisingly the move is intended to allow the card to better compete with its competition - namely the AMD ATI Radeon 4870 which was pretty conclusively beating it on price.

This price drop, alongside the recently-released Forceware 180 drivers which our friends at bit-tech tell us deliver some respectable performance improvements, make the GTX 260 216 a much more competing buy. It's all well and good having a performance competitive product, but that's to no avail when the pricing is out of line.

The GeForce 260 216 now sits at the same price point also occupied by AMD's 1GB version of the 4870. The two cards trade blows pretty evenly in terms of performance, but some might be swayed nVidia's way based on PhysX, among other CUDA apps. Although AMD has ATI Stream on its way soon to compete, at least partially, on that front.

If you're still not tempted, there's always the good old GeForce GTX 260 and GeForce GTX 280

Update:
In fact, you can now pick up a GTX 260 216 for under £200 - nice!
