It wouldn't be Computex without a lot of announcements about internal components the average consumer never sees, but that doesn't mean they don't come with some considerable Wow factor...

Fulfilling the brief this week is nVidia, which has followed up its potentially groundbreaking Tegra CPU for smartphones & MIDs with its latest 9M series of laptop GPUs.

Keymost about the line - which will range from entry leveller to mobile gaming rig - is that it will see the launch of 'Hybrid SLI' a tech which allows a pair of GPUs (one high end, one low) to seamlessly switch between one another to maximum either performance of power saving depending on the task at hand.

On top of this PureVideo HD will be aboard with full support for Blu-ray 2.0 with its BD-Live interactive features. As for gamers, nVidia claims the flagship cards in the range could boost performance by as much as 40 per cent compared to the 8Ms.

Imagine the conversation on the bus:

"Beginning this summer, GeForce 9M GPUs and Hybrid SLI, paired with AMD and Intel CPUs, will enable a new breed of notebooks," said an unabashedly chuffed Jeff Fisher, nVidia senior VP of the GPU business. "These new notebooks will be optimized to deliver a visual experience and raw computing performance that traditional cookie-cutter notebooks with integrated graphics simply can't touch."
