Another day another "World's Fastest Graphics Card" announcement. Here's the skinny...

Dubbed the 'GeForce 8800 Ultra', nVidia claims its latest speed king will perform between 10 and 15 per cent faster than previous top dog, the 8800 GTX. It will come equipped with a massive 768MB of onboard memory and is naturally fully compatible with Direct X 10 (the primary reason we all suffer with Vista's early door incompatibilities), gearing us up for upcoming treats like Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, Age of Conant, Hellgate: London and – the daddy of them all – Crysis.

As for the raw specs, the SLI compatible (see image below for craziness) Ultra will come with the same 128 unified shaders as the GTX but they will be clocked at an increased 612MHz (compared to 575MHz). The Ultra also features higher clocked RAM with its DDR3 memory hitting an incredible 1,080MHz (compared to 900MHz) – speeds in line with what we would expect from DDR4. finally, Dual DVI ports round things off nicely.

Consequently, the Ultra will come with a sizeable price premium (699 euros, to be precise) when it launches on 15 May.
