With the launch of Windows Vista there has never been a greater need for us to stuff our systems full of RAM and VRAM, something of which Samsung is clearly aware...

The manufacturer of just about everything (think about it: phones, monitors, laptops, televisions, memory, white goods, you name it) is the first to churn out 2GHz GDDR4 VRAM for the graphics card market. Of course ATI’s Radeon X1950 already comes with this uber-clocked stuff but now everyone is entitled to a piece of the pie.

Built using the 80nm manufacturing process, this lightening memory claims a remarkable 4Gbps throughput (an incredible 35 per cent faster than typical GDDR4), sports a 32bit bus and will come solely in 512MB densities... take that Vista!

Sammy boasts that this memory can increase graphics card performance by up to 66 per cent (which I’m sure it does... under certain memory-centric graphic benchmarks).

No specific graphics cards based on this greased lightening flavour of GDDR4 have been announced yet (X1950 obviously excluded) but I suspect ‘special editions’ of high end and possibly even upper mid-range models will start appearing in the next couple of months.
