Now that is the kind of lyrical genius the likes of Pink Floyd and John Lennon failed to come up with when writing “Wish You Were Here” and “Imagine” and it is obviously what inspired ATI to stick yet another letter combination behind its chameleon-like X800 card.

The latest edition is a spicier version of the X800 GT which those wacky Canadian alphabetisers announced last month. It ups the eight pipelines of the GT to 12, comes with a core frequency of 400MHz, a 256bit memory bus, HDTV compatibility and CrossFire support. Base prices begin around the £135 mark for a version with 128MB of DDR memory, but you can splash out more for a spec equipped with 256MB of GDDR3.

Many sites are incorrectly positioning the GTO between the XL and the XT, whereas the actual hierarchy is: X800, GT, GTO, XL, PRO, XT and XT Platinum edition. Surely the pricing is a giveaway?

The usual swath of vendors have released flavours immediately, including Abit, Asus, Gigabyte, GeCube, MSI, Sapphire and PowerColor, but we’re using the GeCube box since the company continues to maintain its whippet like timing of press releases and we just dig androgynous red heads driving futuristic motorcycles...
