XFX Confirms 6600 Series

Following nVidia’s announcement of the new GeForce 6600 series, XFX has leapt in first with the announcment that it is to release boards based on the new chipsets.



XFX will offer both the standard GeForce 6600 and the 6600 GT, marking the first time features such as Shader Model 3 support will be available at a mainstream price levels.

Though the 6600 series is a native PCI Express part, XFX has confirmed that it will be releasing AGP versions as well.

We spoke to Adam Foat, Product PR Manager at nVidia, who confirmed that obtaining AGP versions of the GPU was a simple matter of taking nVidia's PCI Express to AGP bridge chip used in the 6800 series PCI Express cards, and turning it around.

XFX didn't give a preciese timescale for the the release of the AGP cards, but stated that they will appear at some point after the PCI Express parts are available.
