Sapphire Goes Ape Over New Graphics Card

Sapphire has announced a new family of graphics cards called the Radeon Toxic X800 series, the first of which is the Toxic X800 Pro Vivo 256MB. The Toxic name is apt, considering the garish clash of colours from the blue PCB and the predominantly orange cooling fan.

This fan isn’t a regular cooling solution however. Sapphire has taken a leaf out of HIS’s book and bolted on an Arctic Cooling fan onto its ATI cards. This is a much larger and more powerful fan than the stock cooler, enabling users to push the cards clock frequencies above stock speeds.

To that end, Sapphire has included its own custom software it has named the Automatic Performance Enhancer (APE). This enables users to raise clock frequencies and increase performance, without invalidating their warranty. This means that users can enjoy both faster speeds and piece of mind.

The only downside is that the Arctic Cooler turns the ATI based card into a two slot solution, which means it can’t be used in most small form factor PCs.

Other highlights include 256MB of memory and Video In and Video Out (VIVO), enabling video capture and output. Sapphire claims that the TV-Out can support resolutions up to 1,024 x 768, which should help those into big screen gaming.
