Being a mobile part, the MRX600 comes equipped with additional features created specifically to enhance the mobile computing experience. These include:

LCD-EELCD Enhancement Engine. The function of the LCD Enhancement Engine is to improve the quality of the images displayed on LCD screens using a variety of technologies. RMX™ III improves the on-screen image by enhancing the way it’s scaled across multiple resolutions, something that’s always been a problem using LCD based display technology. Then there’s LRTC™ (LCD Response Time Compensation), a feature that it’s claimed can improve video playback by tailoring it to the specific latency of your particular LCD display. ATi also tell us that MRX600 features an improved display architecture and support for high-resolution widescreen panels.

POWERPLAY 5.0 – By making use of the advanced power saving features available through the PCI Express interface, POWERPLAY5.0 extends battery life further than ever before. In addition to this, VARI- BRIGHT™ further saves power by managing your display’s backlight brightness based on certain signal criteria.

Further increasing the flexibility of this VPU, it will be offered either as a discrete core-only part or with either 64 or 128MB of integrated onboard memory.

Finally I want to mention AXIOM, ATi’s Advanced I/O Module. This is a technology that allows manufacturers to offer amazing flexibility in the specifications they offer but through a standard interface. The connector has, we’re told, been designed to offer full signal integrity and reduced EMI while at the same time reducing both PCB size and height. A particularly interesting quote in ATi’ presentation is that “AXIOM is a full family of modules– not just graphics”.
