We in Britain and Europe were left out in the cold when the PlayStation 3 first launched, waiting a whole six months before getting our hands on the console. Thankfully Sony isn't making a habit of snubbing us as yesterday's PlayStation Day, held at the O2 Arena in old London town, proved - giving us in the UK first dibs at a whole slew of PlayStation-related stuff.

As well as allowing budding journalists to get hands on for the first time with such titles as LittleBig Planet and Killzone 2, several titles' release dates were announced and some new ones shown off.

Release dates first. LittleBigPlanet - a game I honestly cannot wait to get my hands on - is set for an October début, while contrary to earlier rumour PlayTV will be coming out in September and will be priced at €99 (about £80) and Go!View for the PSP will launch on the 30th of June.

MotorStorm 2 has been given some more details too, primary among them is a new name, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift. Split-screen multiplayer is also billed, an incomprehensible omission from the original, alongside 16-player online racing.

A couple of tidbits about Resistance 2 were also mentioned, specifically eight way co-op matches and 60-player online multiplayer games. Co-operative mode will have its own storyline, characters and so forth, making it a decent addition to the game, while multiplayer will also be tweaked to make sure that it doesn't just turn into a less than fun free-for-all. Scheduled for 2009 it's still a fair way away yet but it definitely looks promising.

Sony also announced that the PS3's sales have now outstripped those of the Xbox 360 in Europe, despite having been on the market for significantly less time. Compared to the previous heights of the PlayStation 2 this might seem mundane, but given Sony's first year struggles it's no mean feat.

Finally, those of us in Europe disappointed that no Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle (with Special Edition console) had been announced for our region need fret no longer. That pack will be available from the 12th of June priced at €439.99 (around £350) in line with similar bundles for titles like GTA IV.
