Bioshock 2 Announced For 2009

As you doubtless know, having read part two of our Games of the Year article last December, BioShock was much loved by many in the TustedReviews office. Thus, the announcement by Take Two that its sequel, inspiringly named BioShock 2, is indeed under development and is scheduled for release in around autumn 2009 should bring a smile to many a face.

Those hoping or expecting development by Ken Levine's 2K Boston will be disappointed to hear that 2K's Marin studio will be taking charge of production; although Levine will still be involved. The ending to the original does, however, suggest that any sequel would be very unlikely to take place in the same setting as the original, so a possible 'prequel' by a different studio shouldn't affect the franchise too much.
The original BioShock has now surpassed two million sales across both the PC and Xbox 360 platforms. While that doesn't equal the dizzy heights of Halo 3 it is mightily impressive given the comparatively low-scale build up to BioShock's launch. Will BioShock 2 follow in its predecessors footsteps and claim Game of the Year 2009?
