Speaking during the Microsoft Keynote today Microsoft's Robbie Bach confirmed that BT will be the first to sell a MediaRoom equipped Xbox 360, which will turn the console into a set-top box capable of delivering IPTV services to the home.

Though little detail regarding timing or pricing was at hand, Bach did confirm that the new SKU will be sold by BT directly. And, though this may come as a surprise to some, BT did in fact announce this deal back in August, while it has been using MediaRoom as part of its BT Vision platform.

Microsoft was in bullish mood throughout its slick keynote event, which is likely to be the last for Bill Gates who is stepping down to concentrate on his charitable work. A highlight was a spoof video that chronicled what his last day at the company might be like, with a liberal sprinkling of celebrities such as Messiah-in-waiting Bono, John Stewart and Jay-Z having to deal with Bill's ambitions after leaving Microsoft. Look out for full coverage of the keynote soon.
