Leaving aside the small quibble that the US has had it for about a year now, the impending arrival of Microsoft's Xbox Live Marketplace Video Store (bit of a mouthful that one) in the UK is a welcome one. Having taken a sneaky peak at the service at a now not-so-recent Xbox event I have to admit the service looks extremely tantalising and thus you have no reason not to check it out come the 11th of December when it goes live.

If that doesn't tempt you, maybe a quick prospective list of titles available at launch will:

  • 300
  • The Matrix Trilogy
  • Swordfish
  • Space Cowboys
  • Eraser
  • Mars Attacks!
  • Clash of the Titans
  • Superman 3

The full list is a fair bit longer, but if I'm entirely honest it isn't that inspiring. The US store, however, is a much better affair and one can but hope that once the service is running here the quality and quantity of videos will also improve. In terms of cost, videos are rented (not bought) for a reasonable 250 points and 350 points for the standard and high definition versions respectively - about £2 and £3 in real money. If you plan on downloading a lot of content, you'll also want to invest in either an Elite console or a large 360 hard drive as HD downloads weigh in at around 5GB a piece. Blu-ray and HD DVD may have their merits, but we all know digital distribution is the future.
