It's official: I need an iPhone. I don't care what anyone says, how bad the reception is, how many friends have promised to shun me should I make the purchase or, in fact, about any other factor. The iPhone has game, LucasArts games in fact and more importantly they apparently run flawlessly on the device. The only small problem is that it requires the phone has undergone a Jailbreak, which some may resent having to do.

Of course when the iSDK (I assume that will be the name) is released next year this newly ported version of the ScummVM emulator will hopefully be one of the officially supported apps, or at the worst LucasArts will follow the release with its own official versions of the games for the iPhone. Anyhow, back to the here and now, a list of games supported is as follows:

  • Beneath a Steel Sky
  • Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars.
  • Day of the Tentacle.
  • Full Throttle.
  • Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
  • Monkey Island: The Secret of Monkey Island.
  • Sam & Max Hit the Road.
  • Simon the Sorcerer.

What with Day of the Tentacle, Monkey Island and Sam & Max all on my list of ‘most awesome games ever' I think it's pretty self-evident why this is an exciting development. Better still, the team behind the emulator even got multi-touch working to provide right clicks making the PC to iPhone translation extra slick. There are even more games than shown above on the full list, so check it out for all the details - as if you needed more reasons to want an iPhone.
