In case you didn't read my piece on the Unreal Tournament 3 launch event and aren't aware of one of the important bits of information Mark Rein delivered, allow me to inform you that the game is coming out this Friday. Pre-empting the launch, and no doubt with the aim of securing some hardware sales, Ageia has today released its UT3 mod kit and two special levels designed to showcase its PhysX cards.

The two levels are called Tornado and Lighthouse. The former of these I've seen running and I have to say, the damage caused by the tornado does look pretty darned cool. Ageia is claiming that the destructive environments in its levels do enhance gameplay as well as looking good; certainly the maps appear to become more sniper friendly as the game progresses as most of the cover goes the way of the Dodo.

More important than the maps though, in my opinion at least, is the dev-kit also released today. Whatever you think about the PhysX implementation provided by Ageia, there's no doubting that if past experience is anything to go by, the UT modding community certainly has the potential to change PhysX in UT3 from a nice addition if you have a card to a must have add-on. I imagine Aegia certainly hopes so.
