Given the success of Nintendo's DS and the newer Lite version, it isn't a huge stretch of the imagination to assume that the company would be thinking of the next step. Well, according to industry analyst Evan Wilson, Nintendo isn't just thinking about its next portable console design, it has finished it.

Citing unnamed sources within Nintendo, Wilson claims the refreshed DS will apparently be thinner than the Lite, omitting the GBA card slot but adding integrated storage, although what for is up for debate. According to Wilson, the two screens will also be larger than on the Lite, though one would assume the resolution will remain the same. With details so thin it's hard to know whether the alleged new DS model would be as much of a must-have upgrade as the Lite was over the original console, but there's no harm in adding to and rejuvenating the range a little and given its track record a new DS would doubtless do well.

According to Wilson a release of the new hardware wouldn't come until demand for the current model dies down and with demand as high as ever, we could be waiting a while. Still, is this report is to be believed the DS is going to be around for one more iteration, which will reassure those who have built up a huge collection of games and don't want to invest in another completely new piece of hardware.
