Xbox Live Celebrating Fifth Anniversary

It's hard to believe, but Xbox Live is a whole five years old tomorrow. To celebrate the occasion Microsoft is going to be giving away a free Live Arcade game to all Gold subscribers and all founding members, defined as those who signed up close to the initial launch of the service, will be garnered with 500 free points (as long as they still have an active Gold account) - snazzy.

Also announced was a 5th December scheduled update which will be adding five original Xbox titles to download and play - a la PSN. The line-up includes Psychonauts (which everyone must play) and Halo, the game that, lets face it, made the original Xbox - so, the pricing of 1200 Live points seems pretty reasonable. A variety of other events are also happening so check out the micro-site for more details.
Apparently Microsoft has eight million users signed up to and ‘actively engaged' on Live. How many of those are paying is a different matter, but the numbers are still impressive - the PS3 has yet to sell that many consoles. Getting a little something for your loyalty is never a bad thing so sally forth and enjoy the celebrations. Now perhaps Microsoft wants to furnish me with a free console to help celebrate? (You shouldn't have sold yours to buy a PS3 then - Ed.)
