Sony is lucky that I don't share any DNA with Robert Banner because I could see myself going rather green with rage at the latest info from the PS3 camp. Sony Computer Entertainment head honcho, Kaz Hirai, has now confirmed that the 40GB PlayStation 3 SKU uses a 65nm Cell processor but is still on 90nm for the RSX graphics chip.

Assuming Google translation is to be relied on (anyone speak Japanese?) the die shrink is prevalent through all 40GB models. The older 20GB and 60GB models, with extra USB ports, card readers and PS2 backwards compatibility are no longer in production. Hirai did suggest that should public demand for the latter feature be great enough, yet another SKU could be introduced to satisfy that need.

Supposedly noise level is reduced from 30 to 36dB and peak power draw is at 280W, down from 380W on the older console version. Considering the power reduction we did rather suspect that the denials would be short lived and thankfully we proved right. Having finally had the die-shrink confirmed we expect the next rumour will surface soon (my vote is on DivX support in firmware 2.1).
