It seems that yesterday's leaks of a new PlayStation SKU weren't quite the usual case of "Sony product leaked, denied, announced six months later" we've become so used to recently, because a quick snoop on the Japanese PlayStation site confirms that same console as well as a new red-coloured PSP.

Japan will see the new PS2 on the 22nd November and, as speculated, it does indeed come sans power-brick. Weight is reduced from 850g (PS2 and power brick combined) to 710g with the new model. Black, white and silver versions are being made available, as if that really matters. The only part of yesterday's rumour that hasn't been realised is the price drop, which hasn't happened. Still, a better design for the same money isn't to be sniffed at.

The ‘Deep Red' PSP hits Japan on the 17th December, just in time for Christmas and, again, will carry the same price as the current models. Two packages will be offered, the standard ‘Value' pack and a second which bundles a 1-SEG tuner and stand. Seeing as the technology doesn't exist outside the Far East, we doubt the latter will ever make it to our shores.
