I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that Duck Hunt on the Wii Virtual Console is a lot more fun than many of the so-called triple-A titles available. If I had one criticism it would be that the Wiimote, while technologically sound for the purpose, just doesn't have the same appeal as the NES Zapper. Thankfully as of the 7th of December my complaints will be assuaged with the release of the Wii Zapper.

Rather than (needlessly) making a separate device, the Zapper is in fact a slot-in cradle for the current controller. As well as obviously working with any already-released game that already uses the light gun-esque aspect of the Wiimote, the package also includes Link's Crossbow Training. Basically the player is surrounded by various Zelda themed targets which he or she then has to run around shooting. Simple as it sounds, the available footage does make it look rather fun.

Other upcoming games are also being designed around the Zapper, including Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and Medal of Honour: Heroes 2. Hopefully Metroid Prime 3 will also use the Zapper somehow, because then I really will have no excuse not to buy a Wii. Taking into account the £20-odd asking price, I have to say that this should be a must-buy, or at least must-add-to-Christmas-list, accessory for any Wii owner.

Wii UK.
