PSP UK Launch Slips Again

In what is fast becoming a farce, news is reaching us that the Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) has slipped its UK launch date yet again.

The new date is – wait for it – 24 June!

Ok, deep breaths, count to ten: 1.. 2.. 3... 4… 5… 6… 7… 8… 9…10…

Calmer? Good, we'll continue.

Yes, we understand your pain and we have to admit we are getting just as sick of this as you. Of course, the rather perverse irony is that these hold-ups wouldn’t be half so bad if our review of the PSP way back in January (we imported ours) hadn’t revealed it to be the best invention since the wheel. In fact, we’d happily give up our wheels if it meant we got our PSPs.



To give you some history on this: the original UK release date was 19 March; we reported at the beginning of February that had been scrapped and we would see it on 29 April. Then we got today’s head’s up. To make things worse our Yank comrades will still be getting theirs' on 24 March, while they've been out a good six months if you live in Asia...

So if you can’t wait any longer, do what Riyad did and pay Hong Kong based Internet supplier Lik Sang a visit. It supplies within a week and just dropped the price of the basic pack to a cracking £149 (the value pack is listed at an equally good £174). Sod these delays!

Either that or buy the cute little Nintendo DS which is out now (expect a review up on the site tomorrow). Another option is Gizmondo’s rival console which debuts on 19 March at its funky new (not Apple-inspired-at-all) store on Regent Street.
