It seems guns don’t kill West Coast rapper 50 Cent (or 25p if we are going by exchange rates) but he seems determined to prove they kill everybody else after signing on to star in a new action game by Vivendi

50 Cent: Bulletproof will see the bullet prone hi-hop artist take the lead role in his very first computer game which shows him caught up in a web of corruption, double-crosses and shady deals that puts him on a bloody path through New York’s drug underworld. The third person shooter gives us control of 50 as he takes on the city’s most dangerous crime families and “blasts his way to the truth”. As 50 himself confesses: “It’s a fantasy version of my life.”

That’s big talk from Curtis Jackson, the former Queens crack dealer but one suspects it is not a million miles from reality. “In everything I do, I play to win” he boasts. Let’s hope he plays the fictionalised account of his life better than the real one in which he has so far been shot nine times (yup, they tried headshots – he once took a .9mm to the face). There was no word from EA on how 50’s health bar would be represented in the game, but we at TR would like to see a ten bullet limit.

Encouragingly, Emmy Award winning writer and Sopranos’ executive producer Terry Winter has been brought in to ink the script (he’s also handling the muscle-bound star’s upcoming movie: Get Rich or Die Tryin’) and as you can see the graphics department look to be making a pretty astounding job of recreating 50’s distinctive, scarred mug.

No word yet on formats or release dates for this one, but Vivendi hopes to debut it at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in LA on 18 May. It better be quick though, doesn't it know rock bands like Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, Bloc Party, Keane, Snow Patrol, Kaiser Chiefs, Athlete, The Bravery and Kasabian are what all the cool kids are listening to now?!
