Samsung has kicked off its Android 8.0 Oreo beta program for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus in the United Kingdom. Here’s everything you need to know about it, including how to register to participate.
Before we go any further, we should probably explain what exactly Android 8.0 Oreo is; it’s the latest build of Android, Google’s open-source operating system, but chances are you if you’re interested in the beta, you already knew that.
For those unaware, however, Android 8.0 Oreo brings a plethora of exciting new features to the table, like support for Program-in-Picture (PiP), notification channels, adaptive icons, circular emoji and, of course, a new Easter egg.
How do I register for the Android 8.0 Oreo beta program?
To register for the Android 8.0 Oreo beta program on your Galaxy S8, you’ll need to install the Samsung Members application from the Play Store, then locate and select the Register for Galaxy Beta Program option.
Once you’ve done that, head into Settings, followed by About Device, then tap Download Updates Manually to check to see if the beta is ready for your handset. If it doesn’t show up right away, don’t panic. It can take up to 24-hours.
There are only a limited number of places available in the Android 8.0 Oreo beta program, according to Samsung – and you’ll need to act fast to be in with a chance of securing one.
