Fujifilm FinePix Z900 EXR video review

  • More Photos
  • Video

The Fujifilm FinePix Z900 EXR is a stylish little ultra-compact that feels solid and well made. The large 3.5in monitor is sharp and clear and remains useable outdoors in bright conditions too. The touchscreen controls are perfectly responsive and the new icon-based menu is easy to navigate. Overall, we’d say that image quality is on a par with other compacts in this price range. The EXR-specific shooting modes deliver plenty of contrast and also help to reduce noise in low-light conditions. The lens can be a bit soft though, especially at the edges and corners and at its telephoto extremes. Read full review

The Z900 was purchased as a back up camera to my Olympus C-2040Z and C740, the first for inside use the 2nd for vacation and outside use. The attraction to the Z900 was the ability to close and cover the lens and flash and that neither would extend out, less moving parts. This Fuji has a very large viewing screen, is very fast in focus and turns on in a moment. The camera is very simple to jump from multiple types of scenes for setup, is usable in all types circumstances and can quickly be stuffed back in a pocket. The ability to take a camera where I would not bother with the other cameras due to their size has given me an opportunity to catch pictures I would not have otherwise taken. Quality of construction, versatility and picture make this an exigent pocket camera.
