Our Score:

fuji z900

While 28mm isn't the widest wideangle lens going, it still fits plenty in

fuji z900 9

This image clearly shows how, at its 140mm telephoto extreme, the Z900 lens is fairly soft

fuji z900

Images shot using the Z900's three EXR shooting modes display plenty of contrast and snap

fuji z900

Whereas images shot in Program mode are far more muted and flat, and often shorn of highlight detail

fuji z900 9

The Dynamic Range-priority EXR mode can produce lively images

fuji z900 5

Again, here's the EXR shooting mode delivering a fairly punchy image

fuji z900 3

The 'Velvia' Film Simulation setting mirrors Fuji's vibrant 35mm film stock of the same name

fuji z900 3

This was originally shot in Program mode and came out a little flat, so we'll admit to making a quick levels adjustment in Photoshop

The Z900 was purchased as a back up camera to my Olympus C-2040Z and C740, the first for inside use the 2nd for vacation and outside use. The attraction to the Z900 was the ability to close and cover the lens and flash and that neither would extend out, less moving parts. This Fuji has a very large viewing screen, is very fast in focus and turns on in a moment. The camera is very simple to jump from multiple types of scenes for setup, is usable in all types circumstances and can quickly be stuffed back in a pocket. The ability to take a camera where I would not bother with the other cameras due to their size has given me an opportunity to catch pictures I would not have otherwise taken. Quality of construction, versatility and picture make this an exigent pocket camera.
