Excellent new features, especially the search filter for products. Ratings being an important one for us to see what you guys think are the hottest products around at the moment.

The site is getting better and better, daily reader here.

Keep the good work up!

The new features are extremely useful, particularly the refine search bit. One thing, though: Westerners use the site, too. It would be helpful to have the choice between dollars and pounds when narrowing by price.

Talking of 'search', one usability issue that has always bugged me with the site is related to the header. Why did you decide to style the 'Reviews coming soon' box identically to the search box? It's confusing to say the least; a different color border on one of the boxes would help IMO.

Great site though, has helped with many a purchase - getting tired of all the iPhone rumour stuff though

I like the search its brill.

If your looking for further ideas, how about the ability to filter on the elements that make up the overall score.

For example, if I am looking for a new digital camera I want a camera with at least a 8 in image quality. Or in the TVs again if I'm splashing the cash its image quality that will make up my mind.

On on the talk of ratings, could I suggest a new category for TVs when rating them. SD performance.

Its a major criteria when buying a HD for lots of people, the next time I buy a TV I won't have an HD source and I am sure thats the same for lots of people.

I know you always mention it in the reviews but it might be helpful.

Interesting idea about SD performance but to honest there are already a lot of scores associated with TV reviews, and I reckon more would prove confusing. As a general rule, SD performance is always covered in the body of the review.

Welcome to TR Forums and thanks for the feedback. I assume by "Westerners" you mean "Americans" since UK / Europe is also commonly include as Westerners when referred to by people who use such terminology.

In any case, filtering by USD just isn't possible for us at this time. The sort is done on Price As Reviewed which, as a UK publication reviewing UK retail stock, is always in Sterling. Our American friends will see realtime USD pricing under Latest Price because that information is provided to us by our partner, PriceGrabber.com

Sadly, exchange rates change all the time, plus US domestic pricing varies wildly in comparison with UK RRPs so that's why we can't

Yeah, I was just thinking out loud really.

Here I go again however...If you had a numerical standard that makes up each displayed rating...for example...

TV Image quality overall score is: X
Made up of:
HD Performance: a
SD Performance: b
Motion blur: c
When displaying the overall score you may need to have an importance weighting as a HDTV with a high SD rating and poor HD rating could skew things..

No need to show this information as you say, but it could be meta information to provide you a more powerful and fine grained search.

Sorry...I do information retrieval stuff so I'm a bit of a sad case when it comes to search systems

Well I'm subscribed to this thread and the only alert I got was the above quoted message so I think your reply may have got lost rather than deleted. I'm pretty sure this forum isn't pre-moderated.

It was removed as it was deemed as a somewhat unnecessary "ha-ha - look it's broken" post and a distraction from the geniune feedback thread.

There's no conspiracy

Another TR reader happy with the new changes, especially refined searches. I can see it coming in very useful when I'm choosing my next TV, Monitor, Computer etc.

Now, if only there were comment threads for news items instead of the "redirect you to the forums" button there is now.

It wasn't a "haha it's broken", it was just the perfect ocasion to praise the english sense of humour.

anyway, sorry for distracting the topic from the genuine feedback, again...

Thumbs up

The search by ranking looks like a 'good un'

One minor thing, it would be handy if the 'Discuss this article' link at the top/bottom [it is sometimes inconsistent] of reviews had the number of replies e.g. could show as 'Discuss this article (1)'. Would save having to click through [pointlessly] to find that there were no replies

Would show as current if no replies i.e. would not show 'Discuss this article (0)'

I shall let it be known now, as the sole moderator of any comment facility that may or may not appear on the site at some time, I shall likely "forget" to filter any comments flaming Gordon

Don't even try to criticise my writing though

Does the newletter offer anything that the site doesn't? It's not clear - especially in regards to the competitions.

No, not really. It sends you the headlines - it's just the same as RSS really.

As for competitions, they will resume shortly. You'll need a TR account (not a forums account) to enter them

If you're not a regular reader, or have very specific tastes, then the Newsletter is a great way to alert you to new content in the areas that you're interested in. For example, Camera geeks like me can subscribe to that channel and be alerted every time Cliff or Jamie review a new model.

could do with a response, along the lines of well they're sister sites so I'm assuming they're sharing the same reviewer for the even to minimise costs and people have been asking for comments for ages
