Did anyone else have real diffculty replacing the PS3 hard drive? Im convinced that they welded the stupid screws into the Hard Drive tray!
I managed to get the blue srew out so I could remove the tray but when i tried to removed the 4 screws to remove the Hard drive the following thins happened: 1) the end of my first screwdriver broke off in the screwhead 2) I think I burred at least one of the other screwheads with my other screwdriver!! the screws just wouldnd move! And I was using the screwdriver that was sent to me in the HDD caddy holder. Has anyone else has similar problems? I think ill have to buy a replacement tray now in order to upgrade to the 250GB HDD ive bought... :-( |

I agree, the screws are evilly tight! We have a decent array of screwdrivers in the office here though so I found one that didn't cause me to kill the heads.
you upgrading to put a load of DivX movies on your PS3 per chance? Edit: as long as the blue screw is in the caddy is secure enough against the hdd to keep it in place even if you don't use the caddy screws just FYI. |

Thanks for the suggestion, but I didnt even manageto get all the scews out of the caddy! I got one out and then aborted when I saw i was ruining the screws... the other options= that I can think of would be going to sony to get a replacement caddy, or even buying one from here:- https://www.ps2repairs.co.uk/catalog...roducts_id=540 altho £35 seems a bit steep man! ![]() Moral of the story, make sure you ahve a good quality small screwdriver before you attempt to change the hard drive! EDIT: Just found this here: http://community.eu.playstation.com/...d.php?t=182325 apparently sony will send me a replacement for free so ill give them a go today! ![]() Last edited by Stelph; 21/12/2007 at 12:29.. |

Hi there,
Just wondering how you got on with a replacement from Sony (their site's changed now and thus I can't find the link you referenced). I've finally gotten around to upgrading today, the back-up onto a My Book drive went great, from then on it's been downhill. Took me a good while to remove the blue screw and as for the ones in the hard drive caddy - geesh! What the heck did they secure them with?? I've not managed to move even one and have now had to stop for fear of losing their heads (will have to ask around at work tomorrow for screwdrivers). There is never any need for a hard drive to be this secure in a caddy - I always tend to do mine thumb tight, anything more is just needless (imo). Anyway, hopefully I'll manage to get the existing drive out and be able to get my 250gb drive into use. |

Hi, they sent me a replacement caddie free of charge, if you give sony UK a ring (like I did) and explained the situation then they just sent me a new caddie (with screws!) in a baggie and posted it to me, it took about 10 days but eventualli it arrived and hey presto! I was the proud owner of a 250GB PS3 :-)
Hope this helps, just google the customer service phone number for sony and you should get through |
