I somehow contrived to finish the main review on what felt like something of a downer. But this really isn’t a fair reflection of the Epson TW2900 overall. For while it might not have the brassy casual appeal of Optoma and BenQ’s recent mega-cheap DLP models, it certainly does have the setup flexibility (especially the image shifting), features and refinement to appeal to a more serious movie-loving audience. Which is no mean feat with such an affordable model.
Plus, of course, if you’ve been looking at the Optoma and/or BenQ models and found that you’re particularly susceptible to seeing the DLP rainbow effect, the simple artefact-free nature of the TW2900’s pictures will feel like the home projection equivalent of taking a Nurofen.Read full review
John, you call this a budget projector and sure looking at some of the other projector reviews on here it is cheap, but I look around websites and see them going for under £500. What is the difference between such "cheap" projectors and this one?
For me I don't even have a TV, know nothing about HD and all these £1000+ projectors seem to be for purists that want a proper "home cinema experience". I've been content enough watching things on my computer, but I would love to plug a projector into my computer/laptop and display a film on the wall whenever I rent a DVD or download a movie. I'm sure for my needs something much simpler would be fine, but I don't know enough about projectors to know what suits my needs; anyone make a suggestion on something £300-500 for that? I won't do this often enough to justify any more than that, maybe I just need to scour eBay for something like this, but last years model.
Just purchased a brand new Epson eh-tw2900 3lcd projector and while displaying a grey background image I noticed areas of areas of purple and green haze over the surface of the image, visibile both when connecting my laptop with an s-vga and s-video.
