Once I can watch HDTV pictures it would be rude to go without an HDTV camcorder. Again it’s a Sony, however the HDR-HC1E is reasonably priced at £1,500 SRP, although you can find it on sale around the £1,200 mark. This is a DV camcorder that has been taken to the next level with a 2.97 Megapixel CMOS, 1,440 x 1,080 video resolution (that’s 1080i), Firewire in and out, 10x optical zoom and a 2.7inch LCD screen.

You won’t be surprised to learn that the HDR-HC1E is relatively long when compared to a regular camcorder (188 x 94 x 71mm) but it’s far smaller than professional equipment and quite light at well under a kilo.
