I use a laptop for downloading and processing my digital photos when I’m out and about, but my old Sony VAIO PCG-9H1M laptop has seen better days. Some keys on the keyboard are beginning to stick, the CD burner only works when it feels like it, and it’s horribly slow when dealing with big image files from digital SLRs. Also the battery has had it, and it’s going to cost £80 for a new one, which is probably more than the machine is worth.

This Christmas I’m going to treat myself to a new laptop. One that caught my eye was the new VAIO VGN-TX1XP reviewed last month. It has a battery life of over five hours, and it measures just 27 x 19.5 x 2.85cm, nearly an inch thinner and two inches narrower than my old one. It also weighs just 1.25kg so it’ll be a lot easier to carry around in my camera bag. It comes with 1GB RAM and a DVD writer as standard, my Bluetooth phone will talk to it, and the 60GB hard drive is three times the size of the disk in my current machine.
