Dyson DC41 Animal

As a rule, vacuum cleaners aren’t the prettiest things in the world. The Dyson DC41 Animal does break that rule, though — it has bright colours that contrast with shiny blacks and smooth lines that actually make it look pretty good. It’s an upright cleaner that weighs just less than eight kilograms, so it is quite heavy.

To counteract how heavy it is, the DC41 features Dyson Ball™ technology which makes it incredible easy to manoeuvre, even in tight spaces. The ball means you can move in all sorts of directions, not just forward and backwards with slight pivots, with no catching on the carpet. It takes a bit of getting used to but once accustomed, it makes cleaning a lot easier.

You don’t sacrifice cleaning power for the good looks or manoeuvrability, either thanks to the inclusion of the company's Radial Root Cyclone™ technology. This technology involves a reworking of the airways and the way air flows through the cleaner, reducing any turbulence and increasing air flow strength.

Bottom line is the Dyson DC41 has very powerful suction, and can get up dirt and muck easily. Even when moving from, say, a wood surface to a carpet, the Dyson DC41 leaves floors clean — in fact; it self-adjusts automatically for such a situation. If there are any stubborn patches, such as if there’s a lot of pet hair in one particular area, there’s a special tool included that will get it up. The hose on this model is very long, too, which makes it good for cleaning flights of stairs.

The instruction manual is quite difficult to understand as it’s all in pictures. It could have benefitted from written instructions as well because putting the Dyson DC41 together or disassembling it if something gets stuck in the pipes is a bit of a nightmare. However, overall this is a good vacuum cleaner.
