Lastly, I am a sucker for simple, easily navigable OSDs and the one employed in the 172v is a doddle to use. No fancy multi-nested menus here, just a simple menu button and two plus and minus buttons offering quick access and adjustment for the 12 submenus. These cover the usual settings for brightness and contrast, phase and pixel timing, ‘reddish’ and ‘bluish’ colour temperatures and an option for individually adjusting the RGB levels.

Verdict

Overall, the 172v is a clean, sleek and compact 17in LCD that is priced just below the £300 mark at the time of writing. However, it offers no DVI port and although it could render colours scales with refinement, a loose grip on the analogue signal and a very narrow vertical viewing angle hold it back from winning any awards.
