It may still be a fairly new monitor size but Dell is already busting out its second generation 27in display. Following up the 2707WFP is the confusingly similar '2707W' but the lack of that F and P make quite a difference...

Picking up where its forebear left of the 2707W comes with a boosted 3,000:1 contrast ratio (up from 1,000:1) and swanky new black finish (I wasn't the greatest fan of the rather plastic-y silver one first time around). Connectivity is the big winner however with HDMI, DVI-D, VGA, component, composite and DisplayPort in there so if you own a graphics card from any time in the last 15 years you'll be just fine. USB ports are sported too along with a 9-in-2 memory card reader.

As for the basics, they remain unchanged with a 1920 x 1200 native resolution, brightness of 450 nits and 6ms response time. Price does get a battering however with a $999 RRP currently listed on Dell US following its immediate release. This represents a $400 dollar saving compared to the 2707WFP launch price. How will that translate when it hits the UK? Not a clue...

If you do plan a monitor upgrade however the 2707W looks a good option. On the other hand, if you already splashed out a bundle on a 2707WFP then you have my commiserations. Technology can be cruel...
