Dell Launches Second Gen 27in LCD Monitor

So this is in addition to the 2709W? What's the difference between the two?

Isn't the new model named '2709W', not "confusingly similar '2707W' "?

the way I always understood the naming convention of Dell monitors was that the first two numbers were the diagonal screen size, the second 2 digits were the year the model was released in, then a "W" if widescreen, and the "FP" says it's the decent model with all the connectivity and high quality panel (can't remember the code for the cut back budget one, but I think it doesn't have the "P")

Seems the naming convention is being changed with this model though, however it still surprises me that it's not the 2708W given that it's, you know, 2008 now...

"FP" is DellSpeak for Flat Panel. "UltraSharp" was the terminology that they used to use to define their higher-end monitors, although I don't think they use that much anymore. The "E" prefix & 3-digit model numbers are now used to identify their cheaper monitors. I think the "FP" part of the name became redundant because they no longer sell CRT monitors. I'm not completely sure, but if you look at the complete history of Dell's LCD monitor releases, I think you will find that the last 2 digits of the model number do not always correspond to the year of that model's debut. The 2407WFP, for example, was released in 2006.

This is currently cheaper than the 24" model go figure.
